In August 2025, a new initiative called the Sole Mates Walking Group was launched in Ilkeston, aiming to help locals improve their mental health and wellbeing through regular walking and social connection. The group has quickly become a welcoming space for residents of all ages to stay active, meet new people, and take positive steps toward better mental health.
Walking is not only excellent for physical fitness, but it has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. Sole Mates was created with this in mind, providing a safe, friendly environment where participants can share experiences, enjoy nature, and support each other.
Community Support Makes a Difference

The growth of Sole Mates has been supported by local businesses, and The Print Knot is delighted to be one of them!
In March 2026, The Print Knot donated branded clothing for the walking group’s leaders, helping them stand out during walks and promoting a professional, unified image for the initiative. The donation included branded hoodies and t-shirts, which have made the leaders easily identifiable during their walks. The hoodies and tees are also being offered to the members.
Walking Together for Mental Health
Sole Mates meets on a Sunday morning in the Ilkeston area, offering participants the chance to enjoy a safe and supportive walking environment. Beyond physical health, the group places a strong emphasis on mental wellbeing, giving participants an opportunity to:
- Meet new people and reduce isolation
- Enjoy regular physical activity
- Build a sense of community
- Discuss mental health openly in a supportive setting
The initiative is open to all local residents, regardless of fitness level. Leaders encourage participants to walk at their own pace, ensuring everyone can take part comfortably.
Local Impact
The support from businesses like The Print Knot shows the power of community collaboration. By providing branded clothing, The Print Knot has helped enhance the visibility and professionalism of the walking group while supporting a mental health-focused initiative.
Community-driven projects like Sole Mates demonstrate how simple activities like walking can create meaningful change, connecting residents and supporting wellbeing in Ilkeston.
Here's what the Sole Mates team had to say:
"A massive thank you to All Tied Up for the incredible gift of T-shirts and hoodies for our Sole Mates leaders. The printing of our logo and names is absolutely spot on — seriously top quality and looks amazing! And the fit of the garments is unreal, honestly some of the best fitting hoodies and tees we’ve had… comfortable, stylish and perfect for representing Sole Mates on our walks .
We’re so grateful for such a thoughtful and supportive gift.
Love
